Court Magistrate Wendy Maddox

Wendy Maddox was appointed as Court Magistrate to the Sixth Judicial District Court in February of 2023. 

Magistrate Maddox, a Texas native, received her Bachelor of Arts in English Communications from St. Mary's University in 2003 and decided to pursue a career in the legal field and entered law school at Texas Wesleyan School of Law (Texas A&M) where she earned her JD in 2006. While in law school she appeared on the Dean’s List and served her community through the student attorney bar program where she in conjunction with a licensed attorney represented victims of domestic violence in various court actions.

Magistrate Maddox began her legal career in public service in Tyler, Texas, where she held the position of an Assistant Criminal District Attorney at the Smith County Criminal District Attorney's Office. As an Assistant DA, she handled misdemeanor dockets and presentation of felony cases (including Capital Murders and crimes against children) to the Grand Jury. She invested a portion of her free time in her community where she held leadership positions in the local bar association and non-profit organizations such as the Junior League of Tyler, Texas, where she co-authored a children's book, "Good Night Rose City" which was introduced to the Tyler community by former first lady, Laura Bush in 2013.

After serving law enforcement, victims of crime, and her community for seven years as an Assistant Criminal DA in Tyler, Texas, in 2014 Magistrate Maddox made Winnemucca, Nevada, her new home after marrying a long-time Winnemucca. Upon passing the Nevada State Bar, she worked in private practice, representing clients in a variety of criminal and civil matters. She then was called back to public service where she transitioned from private practice to fulfilling the Civil Deputy District Attorney position at the Humboldt County District Attorney's Office while also assisting with criminal cases including felony jury trials. In her time at the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office, she was appointed to various leadership roles and statewide committees in the dependency realm. 

After approximately 8 years of appearing before the Sixth Judicial District Court in both private practice and public service, Wendy Maddox was chosen as Court Magistrate for the Sixth Judicial District Court. Magistrate Maddox is recognized and valued amongst dependency professionals for her collaborative and inclusive approach. She is eager to transition her collaborative and inclusive approach to the bench to be of service to the citizens of Humboldt County. When away from the bench, you can catch Magistrate Maddox recharging in her backyard with her husband, dogs, and chickens while reading the latest thriller. 

Wendy Maddox is greatly honored and humbled to be appointed by District Judge Michael Montero as a Magistrate for the Sixth Judicial District Court and looks forward to continuing to serve her community.
